EPT Vienna – Day 4 report: final table reached

24 players reconvened in Vienna’s Kursalon to play down to the final table on day 4 of the 2010 EPT Vienna Main Event. Two players came into the day with stacks much bigger than the rest of the surviving field: PokerStars’ own Daniel Negreanu and Konstantinos Nanos from Germany.
Both players had been hovering near the top of the chip leader board for the last couple of days of action, and they both maintained their large stack status going into the final table. Experience did eventually triumph on Day 4 though and Daniel Negreanu took over the chip lead, having amassed a stack of 5,070,000 chips.
Nanos finished with 3,635,000.

Negreanu’s trip to the top of the pops was not a smooth one by any measure. Germany’s Michael Eiler was on hand to deliver some disturbance midway through the day when he briefly took over the leader’s position. Eiler locked horns with Negreanu several times through the day, and undaunted by the challenge, he kept getting the better of the Canadian until the PokerStars pro managed to turn a set of sevens in a hand that sent 3 million of the German’s chips into his stack.
Eiler is by no means a rookie when it comes to poker. As a matter of fact, he once won PokerStars’ Sunday Million under the online moniker “MAE9690”.
Eiler did manage to hang on though and he eventually finished with a stack of 2.1 million chips, securing his final table seat.

Negreanu kept the pressure up all through the day, knocking players out left and right during his march to the top. His antics earned Lady Luck’s approval too apparently, as she intervened on his behalf several times. On one occasion, Negreanu’s pocket 7s got the better of Morten Erlandsen’s pocket rockets. Erlandsen finished 10th, for a €44k reward.
Team PokerStars pro Martin Hruby also made the final table.
