Face to Face With Pius Heinz

Pius Heinz, the newest WSOP Main Event Champion found time to sit down with the press the very next day after his win. He was asked a bunch of questions, mainly about the way he felt at the various stages of the final table.
The setup of the final table with all the bright lights and tense atmosphere induced a kind of a stage-fright in the young German as the action kicked off. For about 30 minutes in the beginning of 9-handed play, he was nervous, a development he had not taken into account beforehand.

Heinz said that he had had the jitters: his hands were shaking as he reached for chips to put into the pot, the whole nine yards. According to the fresh WSOP Main Event champ, having 3 people return on the final day of action instead of just two was a great idea. Although towards the end of the action on Sunday he seemed to have gotten his foot on the pedal, the tournament within his grip, Heinz said he was not sorry to have to take a break. By that stage he was fairly exhausted, so taking a break felt right.
Heinz also said he was happy to see Staszko and Lamb get it all-in on the very first hand of three-handed action and while he was rooting for Lamb deep down inside, he was happy to be rid of him.

The heads-up stage of the event was a pretty long affair, featuring no breaks whatsoever on account of the ESPN broadcast. Heinz said that while he understood that the show had to go on, he would’ve preferred to have a few breaks while playing for the close to $3 million difference between first place and second.
Heinz will apparently play in the EPT Prague too, and he said he was going to play in every single one of the remaining EPT stops, including the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
