The PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge gets off to a roaring start with $100,000 being won by Catholic Father Andrew Trapp for a new church building!

In our report last week about the upcoming PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge, we mentioned a certain Father from South Carolina; we can now report that Father Andrew Trapp now a collar with a dollar…or rather $100,000.

There was much interest and intrigue over the opening episode of the new show not least of all because of the choice of Father Andrew Trapp as the opening contestant. Father Andrew Trapp qualified through PokerStars to be on the Million Dollar Challenge having read about the new FOX show. Knowing that his parish was in the final stages of collecting money for a new building, he felt that a million dollars would most certainly help the fund. Father Trapp's logic was that at best a million dollar would be won for the fund, at worst people across the nation would get a picture of the Catholic Church that might be refreshing.

Facing questions regarding the legitimacy of gambling according to the beliefs of the church, Father Trapp explains that there is no problem with partaking in wagers per se. A problem only occurs when the wagers put into jeopardy some-one's well being, and deprive them of things that they require; therefore a game that was entered via a freeroll, as is the case with the Million Dollar Challenge presents no problem.

Father Trapp first faced NBA star John Sally and according to the games rules he had Daniel Negreanu on hand for advice. Following the PokerStars pro's advice, Trapp sailed through the first game winning himself a trip to the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and a game with Vanessa Rousso which he won, then having to decide if he wanted to take $25k or face Negreanu; he chose the later. Negreanu in his final hand, let out a telling "oops" and Father Trapp got his $100,000 for the church.
