Fireworks at the PokerStars.net Big Game

Week 9 of the PokerStars.net Big Game caused quite a bit of ruckus in poker circles mostly on account of the verbal thrashing that Tony G delivered to Andrew Robl. Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, David Peat and William Reynolds also saw action, together with loose cannon Elisabeth Houston from Canada. For those of you who may not be in the know: the Big Game is played in a
NL Holdem format, with $200/$400 blinds and a $100 ante. The whole thing lasts 150 hands. Every week, there’s a new loose cannon, a contestant who’s given $100k by
PokerStars to stand up to a selection of professional players and to try to eke out a profit at the end of the 150 hands.
Unfortunately for Elisabeth Houston though, her Big Game stint came to an end on the 121st hand, when she picked up pocket 10s and decided to get her last $29k into the middle. Both Negreanu and Tony G tagged along, ganging up on Houston. Negreanu had K,Q and spiked a Q on the flop. Eventually, Tony G got out of the way as the money went all-in. A J fell on the turn and the two agreed to run the river card twice, but the situation was beyond repair for Houston.
Hoyt Corkins only lasted 8 hands in the game too, falling to Tony G in record time.
The highlight of the action – although definitely not in a positive way – was the war of words between Tony G and Andrew Robl. Not satisfied with Robl spending too much time in the tank, Gouga verbally assaulted Robl, sparking a heated exchange before Robl got hit with a penalty. A few hands later, the same thing happened again, only this time, things degenerated a tad further.
Eventually, Robl ended up 21k under the red line.
