FTOPS XXII – Day 8 Report

Sunday marked the halfway point of
Full Tilt Poker’s 22nd FTOPS. On Sunday, only two players earned their gold jerseys, as it was a more laid-back kind of day. The first event which yielded a champion was the $129 NL Holdem Knockout Re-entry event, #19 out of a total of 38 events. The poker tournament saw a massive starting field belly up to its tables: 4,871 players coughed up the buy-in, creating a prize-pool which failed to cover the guarantee in a rather uncharacteristic manner. In the end, players did battle for a share of the originally guaranteed $500k.
The winner of the event was Brandon Barnes, who made no deals on his way to the top. He took down an $85.5k prize, after he bested a player known by the online moniker “zsiffin” heads-up. The share of the runner-up was $59.5k. Marco Ruggeri was the other highest finishing notable: his 8th place was worth $7.5k.
Other notables who made relatively deep runs were Dan Kelly (who finished 18th for $2k) and Chris Hunichen, whose 20th place was worth $1.35k.
The other event which played down to a winner on Sunday was event #20, the $322
NL Holdem Re-entry event, which gave birth to the biggest FTOPS winner of the day. The guaranteed prize-pool in this one was an $850k one. The 2,995 players who bellied up to the tables though comfortably covered it: in the end, the resulting prize-pool tipped the scale at $898.5k.
There weren’t any deals made in this event either. The winner, Jose Ignacio Barbero, picked up $166.2k for his efforts.
He bested Matthew Frankland heads-up. Frankland walked away with a $116.5k prize. None of the other players finished in 6 figures.
Pratyush Buddiga made a nice deep run too: his 5th place was worth $44.9k.
