FTOPS XXII Kicks Off

On Sunday, the 22nd edition of Full Tilt Poker’s extremely popular FTOPS kicked off, and its first event is already in the books. A total of 2 events went into the first day of the series, the first of which represented a premiere for the FTOPS: the $240+$16 Irish NL Knockout event drew a starting field of 1,522. The event offered a $300k guarantee, and albeit barely, it did manage to cover it.
What exactly is an Irish KO event though? It’s pretty much standard NL Holdem, with one essential difference: instead of two hole cards, players are dealt four, of which they have to toss two into the muck after the betting round following the flop. Other than that, the game is similar to NL Holdem in every respect.

The new event proved extremely popular with the “name” crowd. Several top pros took part in it and quite a few of them made the money too. Mike McDonald was one of the players finishing in the money: he took home $334 for his 165th place finish – not exactly the largest score of his career. Paul Volpe, a player who has truly been on fire lately, also made the money. His 152nd place was also worth $334.
Scott Clements and Jeff Hakim cashed too, taking home slightly more than the above said two.
The player who won it all was Tom Middleton, who bested a player known as “tiltass33” to grab the $60.8k top prize. The runner-up’s share of the prize-pool was $40.4k.

The second event of the first day was a $216 NL Holdem Re-entry affair, which was won by DMaradona, who took home the $104.2k top prize, after a 4-way deal at the top.
Bard_Aces finished second for $102.7k.
