FTP Montreal Main Event – Day 1A Report

Hosted by the Playground Poker Club in Montreal and offering a C$1 million guarantee, the
Full Tilt Poker Montreal Main event got going on the right foot, with its first day 1 flight. 491 players bellied up to the tables at the beginning of Day 1A, effectively covering half the guarantee. With two more Day 1 flights to come, the organizers can already breathe a sigh of relief, as it doesn’t look like there will be a layover in this one.
140 players survived the first day of action, at the end of which Vinny Pahuja had the most chips bagged. He finished with 456.5k chips to his name, well above and ahead of everyone else. Most of Pahuja’s chips came late in the day, during the last level of action in fact, when he took a massive pot from
PokerStars’ David Williams.
In the said hand, Williams was the aggressor before the flop and as the 5s,4s, 2h, hit the board, someone else took over. Pahuja check-raised and only Williams tagged along. The turn was the 8d and Pahuja placed a bet called by Williams. The 7c on the river prompted Pahuja to push everything into the middle, as Williams folded. Despite having dropped a bunch of chips in that hand, Williams went on to finish the day with 76k chips to his name.
Local player Yann Dion had a good day too: he finished with 217.4k chips to his name, after several spectacular tussles with players like Andre Smith.
Russell Crane was among the survivors as well. He busted a bluff from Full Tilt Poker’s own Martins Adeniya at one point during the day to add to his stack in a spectacular manner. Adeniya however went on to finish with a larger stack than his.
