Golden Nugget Gains DGE Approval

Only about a day after New Jersey’s Department of Gaming Enforcement announced that the review of PokerStars’ license application would be delayed at least 2 years, another announcement was made, this time in regards to the other operator looking to begin to offer online games in the Garden State, thus far delayed for a number of technical reasons. Unlike
PokerStars and its land-based partner, the Golden Nugget will be able to enter the freshly legalized online poker and online gambling market of the Garden State, having gained the approval of the DGE. The Golden Nugget has a powerful online partner in Bally Technologies. As a result of the approval, the Golden Nugget – Bally Technologies tandem has become the 7th entity able to legally
offer real money online poker and casino games to New Jersey residents.
The other 6 Atlantic City-based casinos which have been approved for online gaming are the Borgata, the Trump Taj Mahal, the Trump Plaza, Caesars Atlantic City, Tropicana, and Bally’s Atlantic City. All these casinos have gone live with their online offers upon the official launch of the games on November 26, following a trial period of about 5 days.
What this basically means is that a newcomer to the club, the Golden Nugget will start with a definite handicap, a handicap nowhere as big though as the one bestowed upon PokerStars and their land-based partner.
Among the reasons for the delay of the license now granted to the Golden Nugget were apparently some glitches with its online slots.
The Golden Nugget has gone live on no fewer than 5 domains, already peddling its offer of online games to New Jersey residents. How fast it’ll catch up with the other 6 operators, or whether it’ll catch up at all though, remains to be seen.
