Hansen Out of Heads-Up Showdown – Financial Issues?

Full Tilt Poker’s Gus Hansen has been the biggest loser of
online poker for the last few years, and although this is difficult to actually confirm, we strongly suspect he may have lost the most money at the online cash tables in the history of the game.
After all, this year alone, he’s dropped more than $5.5 million so far, and there’s no reprieve in sight for him.
Given how much he generally loses, the announcement that he would be taking on fellow Full Tilt pro Viktor Blom in a heads-up challenge came as a bit of a surprise a few weeks ago.
The site hyped the upcoming showdown between the two pros and everyone got into it thanks to the player-oriented promotions that were slapped onto it, but when push came to shove, Hansen decided to jump ship, and he simply didn’t show up.
To make a long story short: when it came to actually bellying up to the tables of the $50k Heads-up Showdown, a
Full Tilt Poker representative simply informed the public that Hansen was unable to show up due to “unforeseen circumstances”. His place was taken by PokerStars’ Jake Cody.

Whether the reason for Hansen’s withdrawal from the challenge was an actual emergency or the latest downswing he had experienced isn’t clear at this point. What is clear though is that he’s apparently lost some $20 million at online poker over the last few years and with that in mind, it isn’t exactly surprising that he has had enough for a while.
Blom was the one who got the better of Cody in the challenge, picking up the $50k and the bragging rights. Cody will now have to hit the $0.05/$0.10 Razz tables for 1k hands or he will have to make a video of himself singing the Swedish anthem.
