High stakes online action – Dwan continues rebound

Even though the nosebleed stakes have suffered a terrible loss through the felting of Isildur1, the action is slowly but surely rebounding. The $2,000/$4,000 7-game tables at Full Tilt Poker saw quite a bustle on Wednesday, when players like Gus Hansen, Chau Giang, Ilari Sahamies, Phil Ivey, Cole South, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan descended to exchange some genuine heavy-weight punches. The two Durrrr Challenge rivals, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan stayed at the tables the longest, logging around 2,000 hands each. They walked away with the biggest profits too, as the Finn scored a $844,000 payday and Dwan took home more than $500k himself.

Phil Ivey (who wins pretty much all the time at online poker) scored a nice profit too at $358,000. Other winners were Brian Hastings and Ted Forrest. These guys got their monies from Brian Townsend (who finished the session $608,000 in the red) and Gus Hansen, who returned to his old losing ways and dropped $550,000.
Besides hanging with the big boys at $2,000/$4,000, Tom Dwan didn’t miss the opportunity to grind away a little at $100/$200. NL Holdem was on the menu there, with Di Dang’s bankroll on the side, of which Dwan managed to nibble away $33,000.
Following his extraordinary December, when he earned $2.7 million, Dwan is in the black for January too: so far he’s pocketed $132,000.

Though Isildur1 was missing from the tables, the monster pots once again surfaced. Gus Hansen and Cole South were responsible for a $246,000 monster. The two were playing at the $500/$1,000 NL Holdem tables, when they both moved all-in on a flop of 9h,8s,5h, after a little bit of preflop tussling. Hansen held K,9o for the top pair, but South had pocket Ks and the Dane was in a world of trouble. The turn fell 7h and the river brought the 5d to give South the monster pot and to push Hansen back to “fish” status.

There was plenty of multi-handed play on Wednesday too. The second largest pot of the day was taken down at a 6-handed table, by Patrik Antonius.
Giang, Forrest and Sahamies had money in that pot, which went to a multi-way showdown. Shamies looked good till Antonius hit the nut straight and took the $171,974 pot.
