Isildur1’s SuperStar Showdown – another one bites the dust

His PCA Super High Roller win must’ve made Eugene Katchalov hungrier for more because he took on Viktor Blom yesterday at the Superstar Showdown tables, at
PokerStars, in the 4th round of the series. Unfortunately for him, his temerity was not rewarded with success this time around. He ended up losing the match-up by a margin of $111k, the biggest one of the series, giving Blom a 4-1 SuperStar Showdown record.
For those who are not up to date with the latest in the matter of the SuperStar Showdown, here’s a short rundown of the rules again:
The Showdown is played at 4 tables simultaneously. The game is either NL Holdem or PLO, and the player who shows a profit after 2,500 hands, is declared the winner. So far, only Isaac Haxton has been able to defeat Blom, in the very first round of the Showdown. Tony G and Daniel Cates fell, both of them by margins of around $50k.
In the Katchalov-Blom match-up, the game was NL Holdem, and we all know the Swede is rather formidable when it comes to this game. For some reason, Lady Luck always seems to favor him in
NL Holdem, and things weren’t different this time around either.
The action started off slowly, with the two opponents apparently studying each-other, looking for leaks in the other person’s game. It took nearly 40 minutes till the first all-in developed.
Blom took a marginal lead then Katchalov fought back. Both players capitalized on some mistakes that were made, and by the halfway mark, Isildur1 was the one with the lead.
The Swede then began opening up a more sizeable advantage, but Katchalov always managed to hover around, right until Lady Luck decided to swing the momentum in Blom’s favor for good. Blom came from behind in two all-in hands to put away the match-up.
