LAPT Grand Final – Day 3 Report

24 players returned to action on the 3rd day of the LAPT’s Brazilian Grand Final. The starting field included PokerStars’ Humberto Brenes, who came into the 3rd day as the shortest stack. He did survive the first two eliminations, but he was eventually forced to the rail as well in 22nd place, after his K,Jo fell to Martin Santos’ A,3o. The action wound down shortly after dinner. Daniele Nestola had a massive chip lead when the day was called. Carlos Ibarra finished 2nd but he was more than 600k chips behind the leader.
The short stack was Vitor Torres, who had a mere 276k chips bagged.
Joshua Ewing was the last victim of the 3rd day. He fell shortly before the end of the day. Other notables to bite the dust were Mayu Roca and Caio Pimenta.
Ewing was not only the last victim of the day, he was also the final table bubble-boy. In his final hand, he picked up a couple of 4s and committed his last chips on them. Gasperino Nicolas made the call with pocket Ks and Ewing’s day was pretty much over even before the board sealed the deal.
While many of the ‘name’ players fell by the side during the day, several of them made it to the final table. By far the biggest name left in contention is
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu finished with a stack of 702k chips, making his first ever LAPT final table. The achievement is by no means one to scoff at: it makes Negreanu the only poker player in the world who has reached final tables in all three of the PokerStars sponsored tours: the LAPT, the APPT and the EPT. His EPT final table came in Vienna, and his APPT one in Sydney.
His 702k chips positioned him 5th going into the final stretch of the event. Felipe Morbiducci, Jonathan Markovits, Carlos Ibarra, Juan Gonzalez and Vitor Torres made the final table too.
