LAPT Sao Paulo – Day 1 report

No fewer than 536 players showed up for the LAPT Sao Paulo’s Day 1, breaking all previous attendance records. Hungry for poker laurels and even hungrier for poker money, these guys ripped into each other straight out of the gate and by the time the action was called, only 167 of them were still nurturing hopes towards grabbing the also record-breaking R$615k top prize.
Leandro Csome had an excellent day and he kept adding to his stack all through it. In the end, he finished with 271k chips, clinching the lead for the day.
Emerson Baroni finished in second place with a stack of 206k chips. Amos Ben Haim was 3rd, with a stack of 203k.
Gerardo Godinez also had a more than decent day, finishing with a stack of 193k chips.

Being a PokerStars sponsored event, the LAPT Sao Paolo saw a high number of team PokerStars pros turn up. Most of them fell by the side as the action progressed though. Leo Fernandez, Andre Akkari, Joao Nunez and Freddy Torres were all eliminated. Maria Mayrinck, Angel Guillen, Humberto Brenes and Nacho Barbero made it past the first hurdle though.

Maria and Max Stern, the only husband and wife in the world to hold WSOP bracelets, were both eliminated on Day 1. Felipe Ramos failed to escape the attrition too and he was joined on the rail by soccer star Paulo Rink. With two thirds of the starting field on the rail after the first day, the event has certainly moved leaps and bounds towards its conclusion. On day 2, the objective for the remaining field will be to play down to the final 24, even if that will likely mean a very long day for the lucky few to make it past that mark.
Csome starts in pole position on Day 2, but there are plenty of sharks remaining in the field to make it interesting.
