NAPT Los Angeles – Joe Tehan rules supreme!

The PokerStars NAPT’s Main Event was moved to the Crystal Casino in Compton for the televised final table action. Joe Tehan was the one who walked away with the win and a $725,000 first prize when it was all said and done. Tehan defeated Chris DeMaci heads up for the title. Tehan had some pretty stiff competition to conquer in order to shoot to the top.
Chris DeMaci started off as the chip leader, after he had built a giant stack of over 6 million chips the day before. That wasn't the only hurdle for the eventual winner to overcome though. Second in the chip count at the start of the day, was none other than PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier. Another member of team PokerStars Pro was present as well. Anh Van Nguyen had a decent stack at his disposal too.
Let us not forget Michael Binger either, who had a chance just as good as anyone else to make it to the top instead of Tehan.

Jake Toole was the first victim of the day. Toole picked up a couple of Jacks and after a couple of bets and calls, he got it all into the middle against Tehan’s A,Qo. The very first card that landed on the flop was an A though, and thus Toole’s title dreams went up in smoke almost instantly.

Jason Mercier was sent to the rail next. His 7th place was worth $84,857. Michael Binger followed Mercier to the payout booth almost straight away. Joe Tehan was the one responsible for both eliminations. After these moves Tehan became the new 500 pound gorilla at the table, and he did exactly what he was supposed to do. He began throwing the weight of his stack around, putting constant pressure on the other guys. Sure enough, the next elimination was a double one and needless to say it was Joe Tehan who was responsible yet again.
Having knocked out pretty much everyone at the final table, Tehan then proceeded to dispose of Grimes in 3rd place to set up heads-up play. Tehan’s chip lead was a rather overwhelming one. Still, it took him a while to dispose of his opponent on a K,10 vs K,4 matchup.
