Online poker action – Antonius takes down a cool mil

There’s no denying the fact that most of the nosebleed stakes online poker regulars preferred live and online tournament action this past week. Richard Ashby won a WCOOP bracelet in the 6-max PLO event and Gus Hansen took down a WSOP bracelet, winning the WSOPE’s heads-up High Rollers’ event. With all that, these guys found time to get online and to squeeze in a few monster pots too. As a matter of fact, the largest online poker pot of the year was played for last week at Full Tilt Poker’s PLO tables. One of the protagonists was Ilari Sahamies, the Finn who had been trouncing the opposition at the nosebleed tables for the previous two weeks.
He got bounced from the WSOPE’s High Rollers’ event and apparently still in the mood to play some heads-up poker, he took on Tom Dwan online.

In the early stages of their session, Sahamies jumped out to a nice lead, but in the end it was the New Jersey Wonderkid who triumphed, walking away a $280k winner to wrap up a session which totaled 640 hands.
The largest pot of the session was a $414k monster, which ended up being split, after the two players decided to have the river card run twice. The second largest pot of the night ended up in Sahamies’ possession, after his nut flush forced Dwan to muck, landing him the $380k whooper.

Monster pots were apparently destined to fly last week, as the largest online pot of the year, a $644k monster was also played for at a full 9-handed PLO table at Full Tilt. Ilari Sahamies was involved in that pot too, together with Patrik Antonius. The pot ended up in Cadillac1944’s possession though, with Antonius taking the side pot, and Sahamies the proverbial wooden spoon.
