Online poker action – Ashton Griffin takes top spot

Except for a spell of Durrrr challenge action, which saw Dwan nibble away a tad more at Cates’ series advantage, the midweek was relatively quiet at Full Tilt Poker’s nosebleed stakes tables. That lull allowed Ashton Griffin to get his name into the headlines with relatively little effort, by winning $111,723 and becoming the biggest winner of the midweek. theASHMAN103 only needed 795 hands spread over 6 different sessions to pull off the stunt. Phil Ivey also saw some action, and he finished with a profit too, albeit only with a “meager” $73k one.
David Benefield must’ve been responsible for at least some of the winnings registered by the above players, since he was the biggest loser of the week, having dropped around $100k. Niki Jedlicka was the source of some of Griffin’s profits. In a hand at the $50/$100 PLO tables, Griffin took a $43k pot off him. The hand began with some preflop action, after which the 8c, Jc, 9d fell on the flop. Both players checked to see the 3d land on the turn. Jedlicka showed more weakness on the turn by check-calling. As the 2d fell on the river though, he came alive and he fired a $13k bet into Griffin. Griffin made the call and tabled a flush against Jedlicka’s pair of Ks.

Most of Phil Ivey’s earnings came from IHateJuice, at the $1,500/$3,000 Limit Holdem tables. Who says there isn’t any money in Limit Holdem? Ivey even took down a $60k pot at one point, so there’s definitely money in there if one knows how to set about extracting it, and when it comes to that, Ivey is indeed still the man for the job.
A few hands later, Ivey took down a copycat $60k pot again to finish the week some $73k above the red line.
