Online Poker Action – Ben Tollerene Still on Fire

Ever since the waves caused by the 2012 WSOP settled, the high stakes cash game action at PokerStars flared up in a rather impressive manner. High 6-figure profits and losses are logged every week and there’s always a standout to talk about. For instance, Ben Tollerene finished last week with a profit of $343k. While he didn’t quite manage to clinch top berth with it, he managed to finish a close second. This week, he didn’t slow down one bit. He managed to finish his run $510k in the black, becoming the biggest winner of the week. He needed 6,767 hands spread over 77 different sessions to achieve this sort of performance.
Tollerene wasn’t the only big winner of the week. A player known as ‘Chung ho’ generated profits totaling $488k, while Phil Galfond took home $471k. Viktor Blom, who has recently shed his PokerStars pro status, was among the winners as well. His profits totaled $456k. Ronny Kaiser got his name onto the winners’ list as well, by taking down $329.4k.

Wherever there are winners there have to be losers as well though. The list of shame was headlined by EireAbu this week. The biggest year to date winner at PokerStars, EireAbu dropped around $549k over just a week to put a rather significant dent in his overall 2012 lead. Still, he is only a little less than $3 million up for the year, well enough to retain his top position for the time being.

Gus Hansen saw some action on Friday/Saturday at the $200/$400 PLO tables, and the move proved to be a profitable one indeed for the Great Dane. He finished the day with a profit of $548k, most of which had come from EireAbu himself.
Tollerene’s time to shine came on Sunday, when he took on EireAbu and stripped him of about $200k. A player known as Gozoboro also pitched in, taking about $150k from EireAbu.

I've been really impressed with Ben Tollerene over the last few events he has played. This week it would have been easy for him to lose his momentum after surrendering first place but he bounced back to claim top winnings over the entire event. I only worry about his inconstancy and he is still a long way off year leader EireAbu who I was surprised to learn dropped all that money. Overall, it has been an enthralling event and I look forward to the next installment.
