Online poker action – Dwan keeps rolling

Despite the fact that the live poker scene has been pretty hot last week, the nosebleed online poker tables have seen their fair share of action at Full Tilt Poker too. Tom Dwan has been on a roll for a while now and he doesn’t appear to hit any snags lately.
A week ago, Phil Ivey reappeared at the high stakes tables taking Dwan by surprise. Even though Dwan logged profits against pretty much everyone else, he dropped some money to Ivey then. Well, last week, he not only managed to prolong his profit streak, he got in some sweet revenge against Ivey too.
He got the better of the player considered the best in the world by most experts, at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables, landing several monster pots in the progress.
One of these monsters was a $450k whooper. The hand started out with a preflop tussle which saw the pot pushed to $27k by Dwan. Ivey made the call and the 5h,Kc,Jh landed on the flop. Ivey decided to take the initiative with a $54,000 bet. In response to his aggression, Dwan shoved all his chips into the middle. Ivey made the call and revealed a middle set (Jc,Js,9d,Kd), but Dwan had A,K,5,Q for the Broadway straight draw. The 10 on the turn filled up his straight and the 3d on the river sealed the deal: the nearly half a million dollar pot landed on his side of the table.

Another big pot which also went to Dwan was a $243k one, as he made a slightly better straight than Ivey for the win.

Ivey was not the only player who contributed to Dwan’s excellent week though. Ashton Griffin has struggled against the New Jersey Wonderkid for a while, and their last confrontation did little to get that bitter taste out of his mouth. Altogether, his two victims dropped around $1 million to Dwan last week.

After a short upward swing early in the year, Gus Hansen has returned to the top of the losers’ list and he appears to cement his status with every passing week. While Dwan was busy amassing winnings, the Great Dane was busy making another $500k chunk of his bankroll vanish. The beneficiary of most of his losses was skjervoy, but Ashton Griffin chipped in a little too.
