Online poker action – Dwan loses some more, Hansen bounces back

The high stakes
online poker cash game action slowed down a little over the weekend (the same obviously cannot be said about the online poker tournament scene which comes alive on weekends), but it got rolling again on Monday. All the regular players were at it again. Tom Dwan added some to his recent losses. Brian Townsend finished among the losers again too. Gus Hansen, everyone’s favorite ATM, continued his good run. Jungleman12 had a good few days as well. David Benyamine, one of the biggest losers of 2009 returned to Full Tilt’s tables again, and so did Ilari Sahamies and Brian Hastings who locked horns in a battle for the 4th largest pot of the year.
Despite the fact that he had dropped quite a stunning amount of money in recent weeks, Tom Dwan is still the most successful nosebleed stakes online poker player so far this year, with profits in excess of $3.2 million. Last week he seemingly did everything he could to shed as much of that money as possible. He lost about $551k altogether, roughly half of it to Phil Ivey at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables, the rest at the 7-game ones.
In the meantime, Gus Hansen, the player who’s name is usually a fixture in the L column of weekly reviews like this one, had an excellent run, successfully extending his winning streak.
The Great Dane took about $812k from Cole South, as his usually southward pointing luck decided to give him a break. This latest haul took Hansen’s profits past the $1.25 million mark for May.
The deed was consumed at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables, where the Dane got in a 1,700 hand session against the Cardrunners pro. He did drop some of that money later on at the 7-game tables, but even so, at the end of the day he pocketed over $600k in profits.
David Benyamine, one of the biggest losers of 2009 showed up at
Full Tilt Poker’s 7-game and $200/$400 PLO tables earlier in the week, logging a 1,200 hand session. The Frenchman ended up dropping around $184k this time, unable to break out of the rut the last couple of years had dug for him at the online poker tables.
Brian Townsend ended up dropping money too over the same time span. Hansen, jungleman12 and Phil Ivey were the biggest winners of the week.
