Online Poker Action – Hansen Breaks out of Rut, then Loses Again

This week saw quite a few ups and downs at the online high stakes tables, with Gus Hansen being one of the main protagonists. The Great Dane, a long-time and rather consistent loser, mounted a great comeback attempt on Monday, when he hit the 2-7 Triple Draw tables and to everyone’s surprise, he walked away the biggest winner for the day, having accumulated some $341.4k in profits. The miracle – which was obviously a most welcome one not just for Hansen himself, but for many of his fans as well – wouldn’t last though.
On Tuesday, he finished among the biggest losers again: he dropped some $383.8k, essentially all his Monday profits and then some.

Getting back to his Monday run though: Hansen took on some high-profile competition quite successfully at the $2k/$4k stakes at
Full Tilt Poker. One of his profitable sessions saw him tangle with Niklas Heinecker, Alex Luneau, Phil Galfond, Hac Dang and Daniel Cates – not a shabby bunch at all. After about an hour and 40 minutes of action, Hansen found himself some $201.4k above the red line.
On Tuesday though, when he logged 8 sessions totaling 943 hands, he had a rough reality-check: he erased all his Monday profits, dropping some more money on the side, so in the end, his balance for the month ended up showing losses of about $209.2k.
Unlike Hansen, Cates had a field day on Tuesday. Although he had dropped $265.5k on Monday, he made up for it on Tuesday, by winning some $438k, in only 7 sessions totaling 722 hands.
The biggest winner of the week was Germany’s Sebastian Ruthenberg, whose profits totaled $284.5k. Kagome kagome was second with a little over $250k.
