Online poker action – Ivey shows up

Full Tilt Poker’s midweek nosebleed online poker action hit quite an upswing last week. A whole bunch of the biggest names showed up at the tables, including Phil Ivey, Phil Galfond, Ilari Sahamies, Brian Hastings, Andreas Torbergsen and Daniel Cates. In a word: it was a pretty happening mid-week for sure.
The lion’s share of the action wean down between Sahamies and Cates, with the Finn coming out shorter.
Ziigmund couldn’t really get anything rolling. He came out on the losing end of several perfect hand situations. The most painful such “perfect hand” saw Sahamies’ flopped set fall to Cates’ flopped straight. The scene of the deed was the usual one: Full Tilt Poker’s $200/$400 PLO tables.
The said hand began with Cates kicking off the preflop raising war. Sahamies was rather glad to return the favor. The flop landed 3,2,6 rainbow, and Sahamies took a step back by checking, which emboldened Cates enough to make a bet that ended up putting Sahamies all-in. The Finn made the call and showed 6,A,3,3 for the flopped set.
Unfortunately for him, Cates tabled 8,4,5,2 for the flopped straight.

As if things weren’t bad enough for Sahamies, Phil Ivey re-appeared at the high stakes tables and he took a $190k pot from him too. The pot went down at the $200/$400 tables, where Ivey made a straight against Sahamies’ flush and full house draws which all failed to materialize.
To right he situation a little, Sahamies proceeded to take down a $167k pot himself, from Phil Galfond. Sahamies had pocket rockets against Galfond’s pocket Ks to begin with and Galfond never really managed to make up for that initial handicap.

Brian Hastings and Phil Ivey were joined by Rami Boukai and Daniel Cates in the winners’ column. Ilari Sahamies headlined the losers’ list, followed by Phil Galfond and DrugsOrMe.
