In the high stakes world of
online poker cash games there is true substance in the saying: what goes around, comes around. A week ago, Alex Kostritsyn was the hero: he was by far the biggest winner, pocketing almost twice as much money as the person in second place. This week, Lady Luck came calling though, and he gave back a substantial share of his previous profits. The other big loser of the week was none other than Viktor Blom. Full Tilt Poker’s Swedish pro had kicked off the New Year with a fabulous run, so right now he too is indebted to the poker gods.
The week’s biggest winner was interestingly enough Rui Cao, who just finished the first leg of his $1 million Challenge against Patrik Antonius. Cao did well in the Challenge and he did even better at the cash tables, where he accumulated profits totaling $646.9k.
Another big winner was Sebastien Sabic, who played 958 hands spread over 16 sessions for a $458.8k profit.
Alex Luneau finished with a $449k profit, while Davin Georgi made the winners’ list as well, with $412k to his name.
The losers’ list was spearheaded by Viktor Blom. The Full Tilt pro managed to drop an astonishing $850.2k to shoot to the top of the pops. He was followed by Patrik Antonius, who dropped more than half a million dollars. Alex Kostritsyn nearly met the $500k mark as well, while Phil Ivey lost 244.1k. Everything considered, last week can probably be viewed as the big equalizer as all those who had been on fire since the start of the year registered massive losses.
One of the surprise-winners of the week was Russia’s Vladimir Shchmelev, who played at
PokerStars and ended up with a $406.5k profit.
