Online poker action – Phil Galfond bounces back

During the weekend, the online poker tournament action is always hot. Last weekend however, stood out by virtue of the intense cash game action at Full Tilt Poker. Phil Galfond was at the center of this action, and so was Scott Palmer who was responsible for most of Phil’s weekend profits. Having decimated Palmer’s bankroll, Galfond moved on to play Patrik Antonius at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables. Galfond’s trouncing of Scott Palmer happened at the $500/$1,000 Capped PLO tables. At the end of the session, Galfond had about $700k of his opponent’s money in his pockets, a truly impressive feat considering the fact that every pot they played for was capped at $80k. Several maxed-out pots developed, and they all ended up in Galfond’s possession. One such pot saw the cap reached on a flop of Q,9,2. Galfond had a middle pair and a straight draw, and they agreed to run the turn and the river cards twice. Both times, a K fell – first on the turn, then on the river – to improve Galfond’s hand to two pair and to give him the entire pot.
Another hand saw Palmer flop a full house. Not even that was enough to put a dent in Galfond’s feel-good run. The chips went into the middle on the river only, and by that time, Galfond had made a better boat for the win.

After his thunder run against Palmer, Galfond made the less than stellar decision to sit down for a little bit of PLO with Patrik Antonius at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables and dropped some of his winnings to the Finn.
These tables no longer had a cap on the pots that developed, so the two players exchanged some pretty nasty heavy-weight style blows. One $279k pot ended up on Antonius’ side of the table when he flopped a top and bottom pair and maintained his lead both times the turn and the river were run.
Despite all the give and take, Galfond still finished the weekend with a $646k profit.
