Online Poker Action – Phil Galfond Has Great Week

Last week saw Phil Galfond and Viktor Blom duke it out in a heavyweight battle at the nosebleed stakes tables at PokerStars. When the line was drawn at the end of it all, Galfond was the clear winner, having registered a profit of $767k for the week. Not all of Galfond’s money came from the Swede though: he played no fewer than 118 different sessions for his balance to look this pretty. Blom had a tough time against him, but overall, he managed to finish the week with a profit too, quite a significant one at that: $254.5k. MaiseE, the player suspected to be William Thorson, had stolen quite a few headlines in the last few weeks. His reign came to an abrupt end last week though, after he dropped $468.5k, locking up the biggest loser of the week title. Davin Georgi wasn’t far behind losses-wise either. He dropped $460k after a truly disastrous stretch, making the top 3 of the losers’ list. The player to round out that top 3 was Jens Kyllonen, who lost $339.7k in 413 sessions.

Most of Blom’s profits came early in the week, when he managed to accumulate enough money to tide him through the hard times he was going to suffer at Galfond’s hands.
March 1 saw the first round of the battle between the two players and Blom didn’t start off badly at all. He ended the day with a $577k profit, having taken down the biggest pot of the day too. On Tuesday, Blom played again, working his way up to nearly $500k at one point. Then all hell broke loose and he dropped around $800k to Galfond, finishing about $313k under the red line.
Despite his last week struggles, Jens Kyllonen is still the biggest winner for the year with an overall profit of $1.52 million. Bernard-bb is second on that list with a little over $1 million. long90110 is the biggest loser thus far, having dropped around $925k.
