Online Poker Action – Sahamies Loses Big

He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword and no one could attest to the truth behind that saying more readily than Ilari Sahamies, the Finn pro, who spent two of the last three weeks felting opponents and wreaking all sorts of havoc on bankrolls left and right. This week though, variance caught up with him: after coming close to becoming a serious contender in the most profitable online poker cash game player of the year race, he dropped around $1 million.

What was even more impressive than the actual amount of money he lost, was the “efficiency” with which he shed the buckskins this time around: his losses amounted to exactly $1,016,557, and he only needed 2,006 hands spread over 23 different sessions to log that anti-performance.
While the action was still hot at PokerStars, there have already been signs that the focus of the high stakes cash game action would probably shift back to Full Tilt Poker. The in-house pros have been busy at the recently re-launched operation: Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen have both logged quite a few hands already. Blom has already accumulated profits totaling $290.8k, while Hansen – true to his form – dropped $348.4k.

Sahamies was by far the biggest loser of the week though. Andreas Torbergsen followed him on the list of shame, with $390.9 dropped. The player who took advantage of Sahamies’ woes was none other than patpatman, he who had lost quite a bit while Sahamies’ run was on. He finished with the biggest profit this time: he took down $687.8k . Sahamies’ worst day was hands-down Friday, November 2, when he dropped around half a million to “1Il|1Il|1il|” and patpatman. While patpatman chipped in a bit too, the majority of the money went to “1Il|1Il|1il|”.
