Online Poker news – Dwan loses $3 million

Tom Dwan’s luck seems to have gone south for the winter. The newly introduced Full Tilt professional has been schooled lately by none other than a new face on the nosebleed stakes online poker stage. All that is known of “Isildur1” is that he’s a Swedish player, who had played nosebleed stakes in the past and who has recently popped up at the tables again. At one point around $1 million down, Isildur1 must’ve taken his poker roids lately as he hit Dwan for no less than $2.6 million last week alone, which puts durrrr around $4 million below the red line for 2009.

Isildur1 has shown up on Full Tilt Poker about 3 weeks ago and since then he’s played Brian Townsend, Patrik Antonius and Cole South. Most of his recent winnings came from Dwan though, which isn’t that surprising once one counts in the fact that the two of them have played 19,000 heads-up hands in two days, almost the equivalent of the number of hands Antonius and Dwan have played in their $1 million durrrr challenge series over 10 months.

In an attempt to recover some of those losses and to possibly get Isildur1 to finally reveal his identity, Dwan issued a challenge to him, inviting him to a live heads-up game at the Full Tilt Poker “durrrr” Million Dollar Challenge.
Ilari Sahamies will be there at the event as will Marcello Marigiano and Sammy George, though there’s no word on whether the Swedish mystery player will be there as well or not.
No wonder Dwan’s losses were so big. The sheer number of hands and the humongous pot sizes involved made certain that whoever would be the loser, he’d be a big loser. In one session alone, Dwan dropped $1.22 million, but one may see those losses in a different light considering that more than 100 pots were over the $200k mark, and 21 were over $400k ones. There were numerous $300k pots as well and three pots were larger than half a million dollars. If we look at it this way, it’s obvious we’re dealing with a larger variance, induced by the larger pots and the ever increasing sums shoved into the middle.
One can’t help but wonder where the limit for these guys is…
