The online poker weekend once again went down under the mark of the ongoing WCOOP. With so many different events running, the most prestigious Sunday majors are currently on a break. Regardless, there was no shortage of action at.
PokerStars. The biggest winner of the weekend was “th’Kick” who took down the $109 Sunday Rebuy, to pocket a $78.2k prize.
The WCOOP ran a few second chance tournaments, and a couple of ‘name’ players, Jonathan Karamalikis and Dani Stern, took full advantage, taking down the titles of two such events.
Th’Kick’s win came in the $109 Sunday Rebuy Event, which offered a $200k guarantee. 1,265 players coughed up the buy-in and thus the guarantee was yet again put to shame: the eventual prize-pool was a $429,700 one.
No deals were made in this tournament. Th’Kick took home the winner’s share. Second-place man Shaddy Boy pocketed $57.1k and third place finisher Elia001 took home $42.9k.
Jonathan Karamalikis’ moment of glory came in the $$500 NL Holdem Second Chance event. The $500+$30 buy-in event drew a starting field of 582 players, who generated a prize-pool of $291k. The top finishers didn’t waste any money on a deal. Karamalikis came out on top, disposing of fellow pro Jan Skampa heads-up.
Karamalikis took home $54.7k for his efforts, while Skampa had to settle for a $39.8k second-place reward.
Feliple Montenegro finished third for $29.3k.
The event that Danni Stern won featured a much more substantial buy-in, but there were fewer participants: the $1k
NL Holdem heads-up Event attracted a field of 157 entrants. The prize-pool was $157k.
Stern took on JC Alvarado heads-up for the title and the two struck a deal which left the eventual winner with a $40.1k haul. Second place man Alvarado took home $35.1k.
Other notables to finish high in the event were Christian Kruel (3rd place) and Jon Van Fleet (4th place).
