While most people were busy with their New Year’s Eve preparations, true poker fanatics were busy hacking away at each others’ virtual stacks at PokerStars’
tournament tables. The weekend yielded no fewer than four 6-figure winners as several “name” players had deep finishes and made final tables. Melanie Weisner made a final table together with Brynn Kenney, Rupert Eldar and Ben Palmer.
Zsolt Vasvenszki won an event and so did Damian Salas and Jono Beck.
Of the four 60figure winners, three came from
PokerStars’ Sunday Million, the largest of the weekend majors.
8,292 players coughed up the $215 buy-in for the Sunday Million, generating a prize-pool of $1,658,400. There weren’t any deals made at the top: the winner, ante_geia_AA, walked away with a full share of the spoils: $243,955. The runner-up, Yukon2000, was rewarded with $178,278. The third 6-figure winner was third-place finisher Flavio Reis, who pocketed $124,380 for his efforts.
Jason James was the highest finishing “name” pro (other than Flavio Reis, obviously): he collected $3.3k for his 29th place finish.
Michael Hawkins ended up in 31st, picking up $3.3k too. Steve Tripp bit the dust in 50th place, taking home $2.8k.
The other 6-figure winner of the weekend came from PokerStars’ Sunday Warm-Up. The event drew a starting field of 3,446 players. The resulting prize-pool was a $689.2k one. There weren’t any deals struck in this event either. The winner, “inwooke”, collected $108.2k for his efforts. He defeated DEXX_RJ heads-up. The share of the runner-up was an $80.6k prize. The highest finishing notable was Ozgur Arda, who picked up $56.8k for his 3rd place.
Ben Palmer made it into the top 10 as well. He finished 5th, taking home $29.2k. Jessie McKenzie finished 21st, pocketing a $1.7k prize.
