Online Poker Weekend – WCOOP Steaming Ahead

The WCOOP has entered its second weekend this Sunday at
PokerStars, but the milestone wasn’t marked with any awarded bracelets. The three WCOOP tournaments that kicked off on Sunday were all 2-day events, so their conclusions would only be reached on Monday. Despite all that, there was plenty of
poker tournament action and there were plenty of prizes awarded. The WCOOP second chance events were hot commodities as they were ultimately responsible for the biggest prizes awarded on Sunday.
The biggest tournament winner of the weekend was Carter Swidler, who took down $115.6k. Ariel Celestino was another big winner.
The highlight of the weekend was the $10.3k NL Holdem High Roller, which saw a starting field of 297 players belly up to the tables. The event featured a guarantee of $1.25 million, but eventually, that guarantee was put to shame: the resulting prize-pool was a $2.97 million whooper, way above and beyond all expectations.
With so much extra value on the line, the action was fierce from the get-go. 21 levels of action went into the first day, at the end of which 31 players remained alive. The money bubble burst on Sunday. Players who made the money but failed to advance to day 2 were Daniel Negreanu, Steve O’Dwyer and Bryn Kenney.
Faraz Jaka on the other hand made it through the day, albeit on a rather short stack. Michael Tureniec surviced too, together with Jonathan Karamalikis who finished the day second in chips. Darren Elias is the end of the day chip leader. He finished the day with a stack of 352.1k chips.
Carter Swidler’s victory came in the $1,050 NL Holdem Second Chance event, where he bested Chris Hunichen heads-up on his way to the $115.6k top prize. Gavin Cochrane finished 3rd in this event.
Ariel Celestino won the $530 NL Holdem Second Chance event, besting Morten Mortensen heads-up. The winner’s share of the loot in this event was $50.5k.
