PCA 2011 $25k High Roller – Will Molson wins

For the last 2 years, Will Molson had been gunning pretty close to winning the $25k High Roller event of the
PCA, after all, he finished in second place 2 times in a row, but nothing’s quite like the taste of victory, and this time, success could not elude his grasp.
12 players returned to action on the final day of the poker tournament, with
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier starting from pole position. After more than 10 hours of poker, Molson emerged with the win, having disposed of Leo Fernandez heads-up.
The first victim of the day was Matt Affleck. He was the shortest stack when the action kicked off and he was obviously under a great deal of pressure to get something going. He woke up with A,Qo and got a call from Jason Mercier who had a lowly 8,9o. The board brought another 8 though and Affleck was out courtesy of a measly pair of 8s.
Tom Marchese fell to Shander de Vries next, when his K,9 fell to the latter’s pocket 5s.
Brandon Steven was the final table bubble boy. The final table was set when his A,8 fell to Leo Fernandez’s A,K.
Due to the relatively small stacks with which players entered the final table, the action remained fast-paced after the bubble too.
It only took an hour for a whole bunch of players to bite the dust. De Vries was sent to the rail, together with Matt Marafioti, David Baker and Jason Mercier.
Mercier’s demise was rather un-spectacular. He slowly faded away until he got it all in on Q,6 vs an opponent’s pocket 7s.
Erik Seidel fell too, running his A,Qo into Molson’s pocket 5s.
Max Lykov got it into the middle on pocket 6s against Molson’s pocket 10s. The pocket 10s held and the heads-up stage was set.
Fernandez fought back valiantly in the beginning, despite his opponent’s early advantage. The last hand of the event saw Molson’s A,5 triumph over Fernandez’s J,2.
