PCA Main Event – Day 4 report

The 48 day 3 survivors returned to the tables of the PCA’s Main Event looking to play down to the final 24 on day 4.
It took about 5 hours for the field to work its way down to 22. When the chips were bagged, it was Ana Marquez who had the lead, with a stack of 3.8 million.
Chris Oliver was the one who started the day with the largest stack of chips, and he survived virtually on the same-sized stack, playing it safe at the feature table. Second place man Max Lehmanski wasn’t that lucky though, as he lost every single one of his 2.3 million chips to bite the dust before the action was called. PokerStars’ Chris Moneymaker was the player all the experts have had their eyes on for the last few days. Moneymaker did pretty well and he too made the final 22. The 3.7 million chips that he managed to amass were enough for second place. Other notables to survive were Mike Sowers and Sam Stein. They both shot past the 3 million chip mark too.

Eric Froehlich and Eddy Sabat weren’t that lucky. They both made the casualty list on day 4. Froehlich started the day by busting Oleg Perepletchikov to give his stack a nice boost. It all came too late though and about midway through the day, he got it all into the middle against Sam Stein, holding pocket 4s. Stein had pocket Ks though and the board failed to bail Froehlich out.
Eddy Sabat’s final hand was a more reasonable one. He put his tournament life onto the line with A,K against Sowers’ pocket 8s. The board didn’t just fail to deliver for Sabat, it gave Sowers another 8 for the set.
Marquez, the eventual chip leader, played it safe all day long, steering clear of all-in showdowns. She kept adding to her stack little by little, and sure enough, by the end of the day she took the lead following the elimination of Ilan Rouah.
