The third day of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure saw the super High Rollers Event reach a conclusion, and the Main Event kick off. The winner of the Super High Rollers event was Eugene Katchalov, who bested a starting field of just 38 players on his way to a $1.5 million prize.
Katchalov made the final table on a more than decent stack: he was 3rd in chips behind chip leader Nick Schulman and Daniel Negreanu. Katchalov was the one responsible for landing all survivors in the money with the elimination of Sandor Demjan on the bubble. Given the $100k buy-ins that all participants had coughed up, even the last paying position was worth $200k.
Katchalov proceeded to knock out Bryn Kenney too in a hand in which he had pocket Qs against Kenney’s pocket 8s. Schulman, the start of the day chip leader was the one who fell in 4th place. Kenney’s elimination in 3rd set the heads-up stage between Katchalov, the eventual winner, and
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu. Katchalov took the reins by winning a couple of early heads-up pots and never relinquished control. The final hand of the event saw Katchalov’s pocket 4s go up against Negreanu’s pocket 5s. Katchalov spiked a set on the turn to win the hand and the event.
With all the high rolling action going on, Day 3 of the
PCA was still all about the start of the Main Event. The first Day 1 flight of the $10k
NL Holdem poker tournament saw 647 players belly up to the tables of the Atlantis Resort. When the action was called, only 272 players were still in contention. PokerStars’ own Pieter De Korver finished with the chip lead.
Plenty of name players registered on Day 1a including Arnaud Mattern, Noah Boeken, Chad Brown, Phil Ivey, Dario Minieri and Joe Cada.
