Phil Ivey divorces wife Luciaetta

The end of the year has brought about the end of a different road for one of poker’s and online poker’s most popular faces. Following a 7-year marriage, Phil Ivey has divorced wife Luciaette, a high-school sweetheart with whom he had no children. The couple filed a joint divorce petition on the 22nd and got the approval of the court on the 29th, just two days short of New Year’s Eve.
The two got married in 2002, and whether there was a prenuptial agreement between them is not yet known. Certainly if it came to splitting Ivey’s fortune, there would be plenty left for both parties, after all, the “Tiger Woods of Poker” has amassed an impressive $12 million in poker tournament winnings alone, during his extremely prolific career.

Ivey won no fewer than 7 WSOP bracelets. His first one came in 2000, in the $2,500 PLO event. In 2002, he won no fewer than 3 gold bracelets, in two 7-Card Stud and a SHOE event.
2005 saw him strike gold again, in the $5,000 PLO event. 2009 was another extremely successful year for him WSOP-wise. He won 2 bracelets, in the $2,500 NL 2-7 Draw lowball event and the $2,500 Omaha Hi/Lo/Stud Hi/Lo Mixed event. In 2009, he finished 7th in the Main Event, his A,K falling short against Darwin Moon’s A,Qo. He took down more than $1 million on that event alone.
All-in-all, he has 35 WSOP money finishes, as well as 8 WPT final tables and 11 WPT cashes.
These accomplishments only show their true magnitude if one looks at them in light of the fact that Ivey considers himself a cash game player. While his poker tournament winnings are easy to track, no one can really tell how much money he’s made in the various cash games in which he played over the years.

He is one of Full Tilt Poker’s in-house professionals and I suppose it’s safe to say he’s among the most successful. He was one of the players who managed to make money off Isildur1, at a time when the Swede trounced the other Full Tilt pros left and right.
Although hearing about a divorce is always sad news, every end is a new beginning too. We hope for the best for Ivey and we’re looking forward to seeing him back in action in 2010.
