One of the favorite pastimes of the press and the railbirds at the WSOP is to root for already accomplished “name” professionals to fight their way through to yet another bracelet win, thusly validating time and time again that poker is in fact a game of skill much more than one of luck as the same – obviously talented – people seem to emerge at the top all the time.
Well, this year’s celebrity moment was consumed the other day when Phil Ivey, the player considered the best by most in the business, took home his 10th
WSOP jewelry in event #50 of this year’s Series.
Full Tilt Poker is the best destination for online poker cash games on the planet. It is in fact just about the only place where rank-and-file players can lock up with true pros at the tables.
Event #50, the $1.5k 8-Game mix, saw 14 players return to its tables from an initial starting field of 485, on what would turn out to be the last day of the poker tournament.
Dan Heimiller was the player who started the day with the largest stack. Aaron Steury was second, while Phil Ivey was well-positioned in third for the title run that he would eventually indeed make.
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu was in the mix too at the beginning of the day. He had enough chips for 9th place in the provisional chip counts, but his bracelet bid eventually came to an end in 9th place, in a PLO hand.
Alex Rocha’s elimination in 8th place then set up the official final table of 7.
Stephen Chidwick, Aaron Steury and Dan Heimiller all bit the dust before the heads-up stage of the event saw Ivey square off against Bruce Yamron. Ivey’s share of the prize-pool was $167.3k.
