Poker updates - PartyPoker Big Game IV, NAPT, and PokerStars client upgrade

The most talked about cash game of the past week - the PartyPoker Big Game IV - has come to an end with David Viffer taking the big win. Viffer played one of the loosest games ever seen - he over bet, trash talked, and reraised like crazy. At first he was down over £40,000 but regained control of the game and even though he had lost most of the major pots he still managed to win almost £150,000 - the most ever for the event.

PokerStars pro player Jason Mercier has won the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) $25,000 High-Roller Championship after a 4-hours heads up game against Sam Stein. Mercier took the title and the $350,000 first prize which add up to over $5,000,000 in tournament winnings - already 7 cashes in 2010 alone including one WSOP and two EPT titles. Amazingly Mercier's only 24 years old so he's just getting started on his prolific poker career.

PokerStars has rolled out a plethora of upgrades and changes with its latest poker client update. Here are the key updates:
  • Cash games: three tiers to accommodate deep and shallow stacks tables: 20-50 big blinds, 40-100 big blinds, 100-250 big blinds with antes.
  • Tournaments: Knockout tournaments which will be featured with their Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Event #12 (a KO tournament). Other tournament updates include satellite tournaments that award seats to multiple events, ladies-only and men-only restricted tournaments, and a "Responsible Gaming" feature in the main lobby that enables players to "Restrict Tournament Buy-In Limit".
  • Other updates: some tweaks to the notes option, minor changes to the headsup games like random table names, auto-removal of players that sit out for more than 5 minutes, and a maximum of 2 headsup tables with no active opponents per player.
