PokerStars’ $10 Million Sunday Million is currently in full swing. Taking advantage of a 3 hour late registration, players are still coughing up buy-ins and adding to the prize-pool. While the size of the prize-pool is not yet known, it is already clear that the event will quite probably set a new record in this respect. At any rate, the size of the guarantee is $10 million, which means that there’s no way the winner will take home less than $2 million. More than 60k players have registered already and with late registration still in full swing, that number is likely to be obliterated.
The $10 Million Sunday Million, which is part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the site, has generated never before seen interest. Players and railbirds have swarmed the site, breaking all attendance records; at one point there were well over 400k people logged into the online poker room.
The buy-in for the event is the usual $215 one, however many players took advantage of various online qualifiers to earn a seat. PokerStars’ 10th anniversary celebrations included a whole bunch of such possibilities. There was a $2+$0.2 event for instance which awarded no fewer than 6 seats in the $10 Million Sunday Million.
The $10 Million Sunday Million is an event unprecedented in magnitude in the history of online poker. While it will certainly not beat the attendance record for an online tournament (a record set by PokerStars about a week ago through a $1 buy-in event) it is definitely the largest full buy-in online poker ever held anywhere.
If you don’t yet have a PokerStars account, hurry up and create one now. Even if you don’t play in the event, you can still grab
online poker history by the tail simply rail-birding. You should take it into consideration though that it will probably be a while before the final table is approached.
