Barely has Isaac Haxton been hired as a member of team
PokerStars online, he already has his work cut out for him: starting October 7, he will play in PokerStars’ All-Star Showdown, a Series consisting of several heads-up bouts among 8 players, the goal of which is to determine the best no limit heads-up player in the world.
Haxton said the All-Star Showdown suited him like a glove. After all, he is a heads-up specialist and he has said that he planned to reach Supernova Elite level at PokerStars primarily by playing heads-up
NL Holdem games. Haxton also said that the All-Star Showdown represented an excellent opportunity for him to win a prestigious title and tons of prize-money, playing his favorite genre of poker. According to Haxton, heads-up cash games aren’t particularly rewarding when it comes to palpable achievements: they only create winners and losers, there are no champions and no titles given out.
The Showdown will by no means be a low-stakes affair: participants will all cough up a $100k buy-in. Besides Haxton, several other heads-up hard-hitters are slated to take part: Ben Sulsky, Alex Millar, Phil Galfond and Tobias Kuder will all play.
Before the actual event kicks off, there will be a random draw to determine player seeding. The tournament is a single-elimination one: once he loses a heads-up match, the player in question is gone for good. The event kicks off on October 27 and lasts till November 4 with a 2-day break in its middle. There will be a total of 4 tables, at which heads-up matches will take place simultaneously between the same two players.
The blinds are doubled every 3k hands and heads-up match is considered over when a player busts out at each of the 4 tables.
