153 players bellied up to the tables of the
PokerStars APPT Cebu Main Event on Day 2. They were the survivors of an initial field of 319, over half of which had been sent to enjoy the excellent weather and surroundings during the first two Day 1 flights.
One of the most interesting tables of the early going on Day 2 was that of Celina Lin and Tony Dunst. It was the second time this year that the Team PokerStars professional and Dunst were seated next to each-other. Having come into Day 2 on a short-stack, it didn’t take Dunst long to get all his chips into the middle though. As the other players were barely getting settled, he was already fighting for his
tournament life. His A,J proved to be no match for an opponent’s pocket Ks though and Dunst joined the Day 1 victims outside in the sun.
Though she held on longer, Celina Lin failed to reach the money too. She busted out together with most of the other “name” pros who had managed to survive to Day 2. Andrew Scott, Raymond Wu, Jonathan Lin and Ivan Tan all found the rail well short of the bubble. Nam Le was the only well known professional who survived Day 2. He will start Day 3 on a rather large stack.
Terry Fan, Day 1A’s chip leader, Chris Demers and Michael Gaertner who had both finished near the top of the provisional leader board on Day 1B, used their large stacks well, and they all finished Day 2 on healthy stacks.
Pontus Kers had an excellent day too. He had begun the action on a 20,000 chip short stack, and managed to work his way to an above average one bythe time the action was called.
Johnny Hanes’ was the other success story of the day. Having started off a stack of about 80k, Hanes worked his way up to 100k, then dropped to 16,000. He clawed his way back again though to finish the day on a more than healthy stack.
40 players survived the second day of the poker tournament. Dong-Bin Han holds the chip lead heading into day 3 (478,000 chips). He is followed by Phillip Willcocks, who managed to accumulate 435,000 chips.
