PokerStars APPT Cebu – Day 3 report

40 players returned to the tables on Day 3 of the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s Cebu stop. All these guys were in the money already, but that did little to calm spirits. As soon as the action kicked off, players started dropping out left and right. No fewer than 16 players were eliminated during the first two hours alone.
Despite the fact that the event didn’t exactly seem to favor professional players over its first two days, some “name” pros like Nam Le, Phillip Willcocks, Pontus Kers and Terry Fan (day 1A’s chip leader) were still in contention. When the action came to an end on Day 3, only Fan and Willcocks were still alive of the above listed bunch. They and 7 other survivors will cross swords on the final day of the event, aiming to take down the title and the $148,000 that the first prize consists of.

Mike Kim and Johnny Hanes were among the first to bite the dust on Day 3. The last remaining female player, Anna Cu Unjieng joined the ranks of the eliminated too. They all pocketed $3,000, the minimum cash, but at least they didn’t head home empty-handed. The next payout level was set to $3,500. Elton Tsang and Tommy Le busted out of the tournament during this level, earning $3,500 each.
Following their bust, play slowed down a little. The next 3 hours only witnessed 4 eliminations. The lull proved to be but the calm before the storm though. A final push set the final nine, eliminating Nam Le in the process too. He picked up $8,200 for his 12th place finish.

Two players from Korea and two from New Zealand made the final table. An American, a Russian, one player from the Netherlands, one from the Philippines and one from Taipei complete the final nine.
Sim Somyung will start the final table in the chip lead. He has 1,442,000 chips. David Hilton is second with 995,000 and Dong-Bin Han (Day 2’s chip leader) third with 862,000.
