PokerStars APPT Grand Final – Day 1c report

As expected, Day 1c of the 2009 PokerStars APPT Grand Final yielded the biggest number of registrants. An impressive field of 209 players showed at the tables for the final day 1 flight of the poker tournament. The prize-pool of the event became known too: the registrants combined buy-ins for a total of $594,000. At the end of day 1c, 120 players remained in contention, all of them sailing in the wake of chip leader David Campbell.

Campell built his stack up all through the day, adding to it bit by bit without creating much fuss. Other players who did well were Marc Vos, Anthony Venturini and Jarred Graham, who had won the APPT high rollers’ event. PokerStars’ own online poker qualifiers were present in great numbers again. Among them, Sal Fazzino and In Wok Choi excelled. Saed Jabbor, another PokerStars qualifier, fought his way up the field nicely too. He built up a healthy stack of about 80,000 chips to finish the day, mostly at the expense of Ryan Nathan who dropped a huge pot to him when his flopped nut flush draw failed to fill up about half-way through the day.

Team PokerStars’ professionals were out to grab a slice of the action too. Local boy Grant Levy – who got bounced on day one of the same event last year - and Raymond Wu survived the day.

Not all the “name” players present on day 1c (and there were more of them than on Day 1A and Day 1b combined) did that well though. Team PokerStars started out with a massive contingent, which meant that more of their players would be eliminated in a shorter amount of time. Sure enough, Celina Lin, Emad Tahtouh and Peter Eastgate were all bounced. Tony Hachem and Joe Hachem made it to the casualty list too. Joe got into a classic coin-flip holding A,Ko against Liam Tran’s pocket Qs. He did hit his Ace on the flop, but unfortunately for him, the flop came all clubs, which gave Tran a club flush draw. The Js on the turn was ok, but the 4c on the river sealed his fate.

Other notables to be eliminated on day 1c were Jeff Lisandro and Steve Topakas.
