The second and last day 1 flight of the APPT’s Macau Main Event drew an impressive starting field of 306 players. Like the previous day 1 flight, day 1B was comprised of 8 full 60-minute levels, at the end of which Sha Jun from China had the largest stack bagged.
Most of the celebrity-spotters were thrown into frenzy on Day 1A, when Phil Ivey made his official return to the green felt. Although Day 1B yielded no such spectacle, there were plenty of ‘name’ players in the starting field, among them Team PokerStars pro members. Nacho Barbero was there, together with Johnny Chan and Maxim Lykov.
Lykov failed to advance to day 2, and he was joined on the rail by fellow Team PokerStars member Celina Lin. All the other PokerStars players managed to secure a Day 2 seat though, so Team Pokerstars will indeed enjoy thorough representation.
Bryan Huang will be among the returning
PokerStars players, having clinched a spot among the chip leaders. He finished with a stack of 154.1k chips, after a very successful day. He kept pouring small pots into his coffers all day and every now and then he took down a monster pot as well to stimulate progress.
One of the largest pots he won saw him make a nut club flush on the turn and taking most of an opponent’s stack with it.
The excellent player turn-out on day 1B and the no less impressive Day 1A yield generated an overall starting field of 575 players which broke the record for the APPT Macau Main Event. The record that the event broke was set in 2008 when Eddy Sabat walked away with the top prize after he navigated his way through a field of 538 opponents.
A total of 304 players survived the two Day 1 flights, among them Terrence Chan, Victorino Torres and Jeff Rossiter. The first place prize is a massive $500k.
