PokerStars APPT Macau – Day 4 report

The 2010 edition of the PokerStars APPT’s Macau Main Event is over and a victor has emerged at the end of 4 days of almost relentless green felt battles in the poker room of the Grand Lisboa. Victorino Torres walked away with the title, not to mention the HKD 3,246,200 top prize. It was by no means an everyday task for Torres, who came into the final day on the second smallest stack, to shoot to the top in this spectacular fashion.
Cole Swannack was the player who got to start from pole position. It only took him about 20 minutes though to give up the lead to Jeppe Drivsholm, the Dane who had been lurking in his shadow since the previous day.
Keith Hawkins, the player with the most to show for his live tournament efforts was the first one to head to the rail. He picked up Ac, 3c and shoved all-in on it, probably looking for a flush or a pair of As. Unfortunately for him, Torres made the call with pocket 7s, and proceeded to bounce him as the board landed nothing but bricks.

Albert Kim succumbed to the pressure next, on an almost identical match-up. Kim had picked up Ac, 9c and shoved all-in against Chong Cheong’s pocket 8s. The made hand held again to send Kim to the rail, with HKD 350k in his pocket.
Kai Paulsen was the next player to bite the dust. His poker tournament came to an end in a much less spectacular fashion. He found himself all-in holding Ks, 7s against Drivsholm’s Ah, Kh. The flop left little doubt about who would emerge with the pot in this one. Two aces landed straight away, giving Derivsholm dominating trips. There was nothing the turn or the river could do to reverse the situation.

Brian Green was eliminated in 6th place, following a long break. Kenny Nielsen followed him to the rail in 5th. 4th place went to Drivsholm, taken out by Torres who was beginning to flex his newly acquired muscles. Cheong ejected Swannack next to set the heads-up stage of the poker tournament, but by then, Torres’ chip lead was more than commanding.
After some early give and take, the heads-up confrontation came down to the final hand. Torres shoved all-in on a flop which gave him a straight and got called by Cheong who had a straight draw which failed to fill up.
