PokerStars Big Game – Week 2: guests lose

PokerStars’ Big Game didn’t really give the two guest players a fighting chance on its week 2, even though one of them was a professional poker player who has allegedly logged more than a million hands online this year already. Will Davis apparently went jobless in the regular 9 to 5 sense of the word in 2004. He’s been making a living at the
online poker tables ever since.
Sure enough, Will Davis managed to get above the red line once, by doubling through none other than Doyle Brunson. The hand saw Davis’ J,J go up against Doyle Brunson’s 3d, 4d, on a flop of 6s,5d,3s. Davis made a move past the flop as all the other players had already folded, and Brunson re-raised him in a big way. In response, Davis shoved all-in. The turn extended Davis’ lead even further, landing a Jd and giving him a set. It gave Tex Dolly some outs too, but the 6c on the river sealed the deal for good.
Davis was involved in the largest pot of the
PokerStars Big Game too. It was a three-way hand, with Williams, Negreanu and Davis involved. Davis had 8,9o, Williams had K,K and Negreanu had a Jh, 4h. The flop fell J,6,2 giving Negreanu a top pair. Looking to protect his hand, Negreanu kicked off the post-flop hostilities. Sitting on the comfy-looking pocket Ks though, Williams was more than happy to call. Davis got out of the way as the 4 on the turn gave Negreanu a sneaky two pair. The betting war continued till both players were all-in. They ran the river twice and Williams missed both times to give the 261,000 pot to Negreanu.
As the game wound down, Davis found himself in a hole. Aware of the fact that he needed to get something going fast, he decided to do some gambling and he got his 10s, 4s into a multi-way pot with Negreanu’s Qs,Qx, and Williams’ Kc, Kd. The flop fell K,J,3 all spades and the circumstances were set for an explosion. Davies shoved all-in without a second thought, but Negreanu made the call and hit a 2s on the turn to felt the guest player and to take the pot.
The other guest player, online entrepreneur Jason Calacanis failed to finish above the red line too. He finished with a $65,200 loss.
