PokerStars Breaks Records – Again

PokerStars have been known for quite a few years now for periodically smashing every record standing for various
online poker accomplishments. Even back when their rivalry with Full Tilt Poker was red-hot, they were keen on breaking a record every now and then. Since they managed to take over their onetime foe though, things pretty much got out of control in this respect.
Literally just a couple of weeks after breaking a significant record, the online poker site has done it again: the third edition of the MicroMillions wrapped up on Sunday, capping an 11-day run of low buy-in tournament action, which has ended up awarding a record-breaking amount of prizes. A total of 1,308,994 players took part in the MicroMillions hostilities, which means that the series set a new record for the largest ever poker festival. The prize-pools which resulted from the various MicroMillions events tipped the scale at $8,276,083. Given that the advertised prize-pool was $5 million, that in itself was quite a record-breaking feat too.
The previous record for the largest ever poker festival had been set by the MicroMillions’ previous edition, which saw 1,288,221 players belly up to the tables.
Within the event itself, several individual players turned in record-breaking achievements. Two players have managed to win their second MicroMillions titles, thus becoming the first players to do so. Alfons777999 and ADP1985 won a $2.2 turbo rebuy and a $3.3 NL Holdem event respectively, for their second titles.
PokerStars’ own Marcin Horecki managed to win his second MicroMillions leader board, an extremely impressive feat, considering the number of players who made a point out of playing in every one of the MicroMillions tournaments. Horecki played in every one of the 100 events, he cashed in 34 and he even managed to win one.
