PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – Day 1A report

What better way is there to ring in the New Year than by traveling to a tropical paradise to leave the winter behind and to play poker for a share of a fabulous prize-pool, while rubbing shoulders with biggest names in the industry? For a true poker fan, there can’t possibly be one.
The Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure kicked off in the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas yesterday with the first of two scheduled Day 1 flights. A massive starting field of 650 players showed up for the event. When the dust settled in the wake of the battle, it was Wayne Bentley who’d managed to amass the largest stack of all, thus settling in the provisional chip lead.

An amateur player, Bentley really started rolling during the 7th blinds level when he won a bunch of consecutive pots. As a result of that hot streak, his 130k chip stack grew to 260k. One of the most significant pots he took down came from Alfonso Cammarota, with whom he locked horns during the 7th level. The money went into the middle on an A, 9,8 flop. Cammarota was all good at that point, holding pocket 9s for a set as Bentley had an open ended straight draw. The 7 which came on the turn was irrelevant but the 10c on the river gave Bentley the straight and the pot.
That wasn’t Bentley’s last pot though. He remained busy, and he ended the day on a 329,500 stack.

Kevin Saul was another large stack. Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Daniel Negreanu and Dennis Phillips, among others. Both these guys finished with more than respectable stacks. Barry Greenstein had a decent poker tournament too, as he accumulated 89,000 chips to end the day. Poorya Nazari finished just above that mark with 89,300.

Not everyone did so well though. Many of the name pros who’d decided to belly up to the tables on Day 1A were out of contention by the day’s end. Kevin Stammen was among them. Team PokerStars Pro was well represented among the busted too. Daniel Alaei, Anthony Lellouche, Tiffany Michelle and Bill Edler all bid farewell to the action on Day 1A.
