PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – Day 1B report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sat, 2010-01-09 12:09

The second Day 1 flight of the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure broke the record for attendance without any kind of problems. A massive field of 846 players took to the tables, thus taking the overall starting field to more than 1,500 players, eclipsing last year’s attendance by around 10%.
Of the 846 Day 1B players, around 500 survived the 8 levels of play scheduled for the day.
Team PokerStars pro, Vanessa Rousso dominated the first few levels of play thanks largely to a lucky pot she took down right after kick-off. She ran her pair of 9s into a player’s pocket Ks and another player’s pocket rockets. She then proceeded to hit a set, cracking both her opponents’ hands and tripling up in the process. From that point on though, the going proved more difficult for Rousso. Annette Obrestad came forth and around the middle of the day she held the largest stack (around 125,000 chips).
The overnight chip lead ended up in Anibal Tacla’s possession though. The Brazilian amassed a stack of 166,000 chips.

There were plenty of “name” pros left in the PCA field at the end of the day. Breathing down on the necks of the above mentioned players were Darryll Fish and Matt Graham. Phil Ivey hung on too, and scored a big pot on the penultimate level of the day. Because pretty much every Team PokerStars member had traveled to the Bahamas for the event, the poker tournament was teeming with them. In addition to Ivey and the rest of the above mentioned crew, JC Alvarado also finished the day on a nice stack. Peter Eastgate, William Thorson and Victor Ramdin were also there and they all finished on healthy stacks.

Joe Cada, the reigning WSOP Main Event Champion and the latest addition to Team PokerStars’ roster had a much tougher day though. Distracted by the presence of Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole at his table, Cada slowly bled his stack away and he was bounced near the end of the day.
Jayde Nicole soon followed him to the rail too, so maybe all that flirting and grinning did pay off for the young champ.

Hip-Hop star Nelly was also present at the poker tournament however he exited the event early on.
