PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – Day 3 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sun, 2010-01-10 07:58

The third day of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure was a crucial one: the money bubble would be reached this day to separate those who would go home empty handed from the winners. Praz Bansi came into the day with the chip lead and he showed no intention of relinquishing his grip on the coveted position. By the end of the day however, one player amassed a larger stack than his: Harrison Gimbel collected no less than 2.6 million chips to overtake Bansi and to take the provisional chip lead. The money bubble that all the surviving players were looking forward to came early in the day. It only took the field one and a half levels to reach it, though once it was on the horizon, play slowed to a crawl. It took the bubble 45 minutes to burst, as none of the players were in a hurry to put their poker tournament lives onto the line at this point. Eventually, it was John Leathart who took on the unfortunate role of the bubble boy, bounced by Justin Bonomo right on the bubble. Ted Lawson followed the bubble boy to the rail almost immediately, content in the knowledge that he hadn’t wasted his time for nothing after all.

Several “name” pros filed out the door in Lawson’s tracks. Victor Ramdin was one of them, but Carlos Mortensen and Ivan Demidov were eliminated shortly too.
Phil Ivey looked pretty strong for a while, but suddenly Lady Luck turned her back on him and he began to take one hit after another. Pretty soon he too was bounced, having failed to make it into the serious money zone.

Praz Bansi got going near the end of the day, but John Duthie, Amanda Baker, Erich Froehlich and Barry Shulman weren’t far behind either. Justin Bonomo had a good run too, right up to the final level when he ran head-first into Gimbel who sent him right to the payout queue. A total of 64 players survived the third day of PCA action. They will play down to the final 24 on Day 4, as the big money is slowly but surely taking shape on the horizon.
