PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – Day 4 report

The 62 survivors who bellied up to the tables on Day 4 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure were greeted by gloomy, windy weather outside the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort. The action inside was sizzling though. By the day’s end, only 24 of the 62 starters were left in contention, with Ryan D’Angelo holding the provisional chip lead.
D’Angelo had an excellent day from every angle. He clinched the chip lead early on, and held on to it all the way through, running roughshod over some of the best players the field could throw at him. He was responsible for Hafiz Chan’s elimination as well as for that of Roger Teska and Mike Chappus. All that roughhousing resulted in a stack of 7,483,000 chips. Just to put that into perspective: D’Angelo was the only player to break the 6 million chip mark.

EPT founder John Duthie finished second in chips. Duthie had had an excellent run on Day 3 too, and his excellent shape continued on day 4. He accumulated 5,304,000 chips, well short of D’Angelo’s stack. The interesting thing about the two top players of the day was that they shared a table for most of Day 4. They were both cautious and wise enough not to lock horns though as they chipped away at the other players’ stacks at their table.
The hand that propelled Duthie into second position came rather late in the day. Kent Lundmark picked up pocket rockets and there was no way he would dodge Duthie’s flopped two pair. Duthie’s modest 7d,8d was hit dead on by the flop, thus setting up a perfect trap for Lundmark. Sure enough, both players shoved all-in on the flop, and needless to say the turn and the river failed to bail Lundmark out. That pot pushed Duthie’s stack to 4.6 million chips. Duthie’s PokerStars Pro teammates didn’t fare nearly as well though as they were all swept aside by the tide, none of them making it past day 4.

Thus, Florian Langmann and Johnny Lodden were joined on the sidelines by Huck Seed, Amanda Baker, Bill Gazes, Liz Lieu and Soren Kongsgaard. The Main Event continues today, with 24 players still vying for the title.
