PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Rollers event – final 24 reached

The second day of the
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure high roller event saw Dario Mineri dart to the top of the provisional rankings. Day 2 came to an end when the final 24 was reached, during the 12th blinds level.
Minieri’s rise to the top wasn’t an out-of-the-blue one. He began the day second in chips and he capitalized well on that advantage. Lex Veldhuis, the start of the day chip leader shared tables with Minieri through the day, thus a confrontation between the two was inevitable.
The two large stacks did a nice job of avoiding each other through the day, but eventually, the circumstances aligned perfectly for a showdown. Minieri picked up pocket Ks in the same hand in which Veldhuis landed a As, Ks. The stage for the battle was set and the two players wasted little time in getting all their chips into the middle. Minieri’s pocket Ks held up and Veldhuis was relegated to small stack status, only to bust out a few hands later.
Michiel Brummelhuis finished second in chips at the end of the day, having amassed a stack of more than 400,000 chips. Brummelhuis was never intent on staying out of anyone’s path: he played aggressively, constantly pressuring his opponents and constantly adding to his stack.
Despite the few players that remained in contention in the poker tournament, team
Pokerstars Pro is still well represented. No fewer than 4 of their players are still alive in the event. In addition to Minieri, Sandra Naujoks, Joe Cada and Greg Raymer will play on day 3 of the event.
For some of the other “name” pros, day 2 was much tougher. Mike Matusow was one of those bounced, as a matter of fact, it was his elimination that spelled the end of the day’s hostilities. His 25th place finish was a result of a last minute confrontation he had with Carter Phillips. Phillips had K,8o against Matusow’s A,Qo and landed a two pair to knock the notoriously unlucky “Mouth” out.
Because of the makeup of the starting field, there are still many well known players in contention. Isaac Baron is still there, together with Alex Brenes, Vivek Rajkumar, Matt Marafioti and Lisa Hamilton.
