PokerStars EPT Berlin – Day 1a report

The first day 1 flight of the
EPT Berlin Main Event wasn’t overly pro-heavy, which was just OK with the participants. Despite the fact that according to German law, buying into the event online was illegal and thus impossible, the Day 1a starting field was a rather hefty one: 315 players coughed up the €5k buy-in. Despite the fact that most of the well-known pros stayed away (possibly to get rolling on Day 1b), there were a few ‘name’ players in the starting field: Per Linde, Nasr El Nasr, Andrew Teng and Michael Tureniec were all there, together with Chris Moore and Andre Coimbra.
The chip lead at the end of the day went to Cristian Dragomir, who managed to amass a stack of 205k chips, by far the biggest one of his flight.
151 players remained at the end of the day, but they’re all still quite a bit of a distance from even thinking about making the money.
Benny Spindler and Nasr El Nasr got going early, and they both led the pack for a while, but then they both faded back into the field and Spindler didn’t even manage to survive the day: he was eventually eliminated by Dragomir on the very last hand of the day. Mayu Roca was in contention for the chip lead too, but the chips he collected through Spindler’s elimination thrust Dragomir past him to the top. Roca finished with a 190k stack. Max Heinzelmann finished near the top too, with a 186k stack. He was followed by Vegard Vestvik with 178k.
Michael Tureniec’s day wasn’t exactly a good one: he was eliminated relatively early on, together with
PokerStars’ Andre Coimbra. Chris Moorman bit the dust as well.
Day 1B is likely to see a larger starting field belly up to the tables. Some of the players expected to get going on the second Day 1 are: Liv Boeree, Dario Minieri, Luca Pagano and Johnny Lodden.
